About Me

I remember pretending to deliver babies when I was around 8 or 9 years old.  For as long as I can remember, pregnancy has fascinated me.  When I witnessed childbirth for the first time as a nursing student, I knew it was what I wanted to do daily!

I went directly into labor and delivery after graduating from nursing school.  I was a labor and delivery nurse for 16 years.  Then decided to further my education and training and become a nurse-midwife.  I trained at the Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing in Kentucky, established as the first nurse-midwifery school in the United States.  I have been a certified nurse-midwife since 2002.  I've worked in variety of settings, large and small hospitals.  However, I have always believed in the philosophy of midwifery.

Midwives believe each woman and her family are unique physically, emotionally and spiritually.  Midwives also believe that pregnancy and childbirth are normal life processes.  Midwives care for women during pregnancy, childbirth, postpartum and throughout the lifecycle providing well woman exams, and family planning counseling. I believe pregnancy and childbirth should be woman-centered and each woman should be an active participant in her care.  Prenatal care and education should be individualized and I provide hands-on support during labor, childbirth and the postpartum period.  I love what I do.  Assisting families during this period of their lives is a very special event and my goal is to make it memorable, one that brings a smile.

Most recently I worked with Indian Health Service in Phoenix for 18 years but am now with a wonderful practice, Boojum Obstetrics & Gynecology. I am married and have three children who are all very active in sports.

My hobbies are exercising, cooking, and all sports.
